James Flewellen and Neel Burton are the founders of the Oxford Wine Academy, and authors of the Concise Guide to Wine and Blind Tasting. They are keen to pass on their passion for wine, especially—although not exclusively—through the medium of blind tasting. This website contains a number of blind tasting resources, including a blind tasting guide, a crib sheet to help identification, and tasting sheets that can be printed out and photocopied for you and your guests.
James and Neel
James is a biophysicist at Oxford University. While still a student, he led the university’s blind tasting team to victory in several competitions, most notably the Sciences Po International Tasting (SPIT) and the Varsity Match against Cambridge University. Reporting on the 58th Varsity Match in the Financial Times, Jancis Robinson MW described him as ‘the most impressive taster of the lot’. James is the founder and curator of the Oxford Wine Blog and the wine columnist for the Rambling Epicure.
Neel is a writer and wine-lover who lives and teaches in Oxford. He is the author of several books, including The Meaning of Madness, Hide and Seek: The Psychology of Self-Deception, and The Art of Failure: The Anti Self-Help Guide. For more on Neel, visit www.neelburton.com.
